Stimulus Update: Massive Tax Rebate Checks Worth 14% are Expected to Arrive Within the Next Three Days

Stimulus Update: Within the next few days, roughly three million Massachusetts residents will receive tax refunds totaling 14% of the state income taxes they paid.

While some taxpayers are still waiting, the majority received their money in November, according to WBUR. According to GBH News, the state revenue service stated that anyone deserving of a rebate who hasn’t yet received one should do so by December 15.

Direct deposit of the rebates into taxpayers’ bank accounts will take place. If direct deposit is not set up, the rebate will instead be mailed to the customer as a check.

Because the total amount of the rebates is a fixed percentage of the income tax that was paid, those with higher incomes will receive much more than those with lower incomes. According to WBUR, someone earning $35,000 would receive $200 and someone earning $1 million would receive $7,000.

Since the application deadline for this rebate has been extended through September 15 of next year, there is still plenty of time for people to file a 2021 tax return.
